Subject: MS and Long Term Care
Date: 1997/03/03
"This short note is to strongly, Strongly, STRONGLY, encourage anyone who
is young enough, and healthy enough, to consider long-term care insurance.
There are many employers, unions, and associations that offer group rates.
Get it while you are still young and still relatively symptom-free!
I do not say this because I work for a company that sells long-term care
insurance. I say this because I waited too long. My company offered
long-term care insurance, at group rates, to me as a new employee and I
did not accept it. Now, even though I have almost 10 years of service to
this company under my belt, because of my MS symptoms I am considered
uninsurable and I cannot purchase the coverage.
Please look into long-term care insurance. You will save yourself
headaches and you will save your family future financial concerns. But
before you sign an application, read the buyer's guide that your
association or your insurance agent must, by law, provide to you. And, if
possible, do a little web surfing. There are many sources of long-term
care insurance information on the web and from your state agency that
regulates insurance companies."

Editors Note: While the author's assertion that there are many opportunities to purchase group LTC coverage is correct, it has been our experience that an individual plan usually offers better coverage and better rates because of the differences in underwriting procedures.
